Alum Eric Carruth completed his PhD in June, 2018. His research has focused on developing and parameterizing models of the biomechanics of the heart. Our group uses diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) in the rat heart to describe the fiber and sheet architecture in the ventricles. We also are working on developing descriptions of protein distributions via immunofluorescence and microscopy. We are specifically interested in observing structural changes that occur in the heart at the organ and cellular scales during hypertrophy.
